What is the Martingale System and How is it Implemented?

Martingale Roulette Strategy is most popular among all roulette systems, probably due to its simplicity and ease of application at the table. However, as with all other roulette tactics, there is one most important factor that will determine the outcome of the game and that is luck. On the other hand, it can help you control your money properly and in a successful way.

How does the Martingale System Work?

The main idea behind the Martingale system is to double your bet after loss to compensate for your losses and pass a unit profit. After each win, you return to your standard bet stake. It is usually used by placing bets on 2 to 1 payouts like odd / even, red / black.

Let’s explain the Martingale System with an example. If you place a 5 EUR bet and lose, the system requires you to place a 10 EUR bet for you’re the next hand/spin. If you lose again with the 10 EUR bet, the next hand you will need to bet 20 EUR. If your 20 EUR bet wins, you will receive 40 EUR. However, you will have placed bets 3 bets 5 EUR + 10 EUR + 20 EUR so far, 35 EUR in total. Your net profit is 5 EUR, which is the amount you will place as your first bet. After that, you can go back to the beginning and start playing with 5 EUR.

Requirements for Implementing the Martingale System

At first, this system looks pretty good and you might think it’s fair. However, the biggest flaw in this system is that it requires you to have a fairly large case in theory. There should also be no limit on how much you can bet on the table. If you are going to start the game with 1 EUR, and  if you believe that you will not lose a total of 7 hands,  128 EUR will be sufficient for you.

A good casino bonus is required to begin advantageously in this system. Because you can easily double up to your balance and start the game. Some online casinos even offer 200 % bonuses. So if you make a deposit of 500 EUR you can start playing with awesome 1,000 EUR. You can find information about all bonuses in our Bonuses page.

You should also pay attention to the maximum betting limits of the tables. For example, some tables may not accept 2 to 1 payout bets for more than 50 EUR. You can find this in table rules, or ask the dealer if you are playing live roulette. After that, you can only go at the table limit. Or, if you are going to play using Martingale System Strategy, choose a table with high betting limits.

Martingale System Examples

Let’s assume that you will play roulette with 75 EUR and bet 5 EUR at a time. By using the Martingale system with this amount, you will have 4 hands before losing your balance. If you lose 4 hands in a row, you will run out of money because you will have placed bets as following: 5 EUR + 10 EUR + 20 EUR + 40 EUR. A total of 75 EUR. However, losing 4 times in a row is pretty bad luck. If your balance limited to 75 EUR we would recommend you to try your luck another day.

On the other hand, let’s suppose you are Jeff Bezos and you have almost endless amount of money to play, but you still decided to bet 5 EUR on a table where the maximum bet is 200 EUR each time.  Now you can lose 6 times in a row. You lost 5 + 10 + 20 + 40 + 80 + 160 EUR. It makes 255 EUR in total. The next bet should be 320 EUR but, since the maximum bet limit will be 200 EUR you can’t place the 7th bet. We suggest you to leave the table with limit of 200 EUR and find another table with much bigger limits that you can place bets. There are already VIP roulette tables that accept thousands of EUR as bets. In theory, you will not have any problems while playing on online casino or in the local casino. Let’s give you the possibilities of losing in series. Do your assessment and risk analysis by yourself. Your chances of losing 7 times in a row are 1 in 128. If you lose 8 times in a row the chance of losing will increase to 1 in 256. If you start playing with balance that will handle you up to 10 hands the chances of losing will be 1 to 1024. What do you think not that much risky, right?
